The One Thing You Must Do NOW To Become Fluent in English!
Imagine there were ONE thing that could completely transform the way you speak English and help you become fluent faster and more efficiently?
Well, there is!
And what is that thing?
Getting outside your comfort zone and putting yourself in difficult situations!
I need to explain this to you in more detail, so let me tell you a true story...
This is the story of a young woman from Iran, who moved to Canada all alone in December, 2023.
When Shadab first moved to Canada, she was nervous. She felt alone. She didn’t have many friends in Canada. She was experiencing what we call “culture shock”.
But there was something else that was holding her back from feeling “at home” in Canada: her English.
Back then, she couldn’t even understand people when ordering a coffee in English!
She felt nervous to speak.
She didn't know what to say.
She had problems understanding native speakers when they spoke fast and used complicated idioms, phrasal verbs, & vocabulary.
Her level of English was preventing her from reaching her full potential in her new country 😲
In December, I hosted a meetup in Vancouver with some of my social media followers and Club members.
Shadab attended the meetup, where I met her for the first time.
She explained her situation to me, and we spoke for over an hour.
After hearing her story and situation, I knew immediately I could help her, since I have helped so many students in similar situations who have moved to English-speaking countries like Canada, the US, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.
After the meetup, Shadab became a student of my English Club, and in the days, weeks, and months afterwards, we communicated regularly.
My team and I offered guidance and support, but most importantly, we encouraged her to get out of her comfort zone!
If you're like Shadab and so many other students, and you often feel frustrated, stuck, or unsatisfied with your current level of English, this is the only solution:
You NEED to get out of your comfort zone!
You need to be prepared to put yourself in difficult situations.
This is the ONLY way to grow - not only in language learning, but in life, too!
❌ If you don't, you're going to continue to feel nervous when you speak.
❌ You're going to feel like no matter what, you're not improving.
❌ You're going to continue to be frustrated... and you might even start to HATE learning English! 😓
The good news?
✅ You can easily avoid these problems!
For Shadab, fixing these meant a series of simple exercises:
🔸 She was nervous to speak to strangers. So, the challenge I gave her was to talk to ONE stranger a day for a week, asking them for directions...
🔸 She often didn't understand fast, spoken English. So, her next challenge was to watch part of a movie with subtitles, then watch it again without subtitles - every day...
🔸 She was nervous making "small talk" in English. So, every time she went for coffee, I challenged her to make small talk with the waiter for at least one minute...
After forcing herself to get out of her comfort zone, Shadab finally "broke" the barrier and started seeing a massive improvement in her confidence and communication skills, after only a few months!
So, what do I want you to take away from this story?
Two important points:
⭐ #1: The fastest way for you to improve your English is to get out of your comfort zone.
You need to be doing the things that you KNOW you should be doing, but that you feel too nervous to do.
In Shadab’s case, it was moving to Canada, speaking, and meeting new people.
Maybe in your case, it’s attending a job interview. Watching a movie without subtitles. Standing up for yourself at work when your colleague says something you don't agree with.
⭐#2: "Fortune Favours The Bold"
This is an English expression that means that the more courage and bravery you have, the better and brighter your future will be.
And it's absolutely true.
If you are the one who is willing to put yourself in difficult situations, you will be the one who sees all the rewards and benefits.
If you stay inside your comfort zone just because you feel safer there, you will never live the life you dream of living... and the life you deserve to live!
Well, that's it for today.
By telling you the story of Shadab, my goal was to motivate you, to inspire you, and to talk to you about the importance of getting outside your comfort zone and putting yourself in difficult situations.
By making this small mindset change, you have the power to reach new levels of fluency you never thought possible!
You've got this.
I believe in you.
Until next time,
-Your teacher Michael
